Biography
Kevon Weekes is a Trinidad and Tobago visual artist whose multidisciplinary practice is grounded in portraiture, cultural memory, identity, and the lived experience of Caribbean people. Working across graphite, charcoal, mixed media, acrylic and oil, Weekes navigates the space between observational realism and expressive interpretation, using the human figure as both subject and vehicle for broader narratives of heritage, resilience and belonging.
At the centre of Weekes’ practice is an interest in the ways individuals and communities construct, preserve and communicate identity. His portraits extend beyond physical likeness, engaging gesture, expression, atmosphere and materiality to explore the emotional and cultural significance embedded within the subject. His broader body of work draws from Trinidad and Tobago’s cultural landscape including Carnival, music, national symbolism, nature and its influential personalities reflecting an ongoing investigation into what constitutes Caribbean identity and how it is represented.
Weekes holds a Bachelor of Arts in Visual Arts and a Certificate in Business Management and Technology. His practice has developed through sustained engagement with both traditional and contemporary approaches to image-making, while maintaining a strong commitment to technical skill and culturally relevant subject matter.
