Vida Mitchell believes art is an expression of self and a way to show my personality which is light-hearted, cheerful and colourful. Her pieces are an expressive unnatural use of colour with whimsical use of brushstrokes. This mixed with bold warm colours is used to let her imagination be visible. “For me, it is not about representing what I directly see but about what I imagine in my mind and how it makes me feel while creating’’. Her pieces are made with the idea of capturing the energy of individuals, landscapes and objects. Whatever she chooses to paint she aims to elicit a mood of powerful energy, happiness and a celebration of that subject matter. “I create paintings because I see the benefits in taking time to appreciate my surroundings’’. My general philosophy about art is it should be a method of making connections with your surroundings and finding ways to make it expressive of your thoughts.
