Biography
Malika is a Trinidad and Tobago–based artist residing in Tobago whose practice explores realism, surrealism, and the complexities of human expression. Primarily working in oil paint, she creates portraiture and abstract works that examine human features, emotions, identity, and history. Her artistic journey began through Visual Arts at Scarborough Secondary School, where she developed an interest in painting before graduating in 2021. In early 2022, painting became a personal creative practice, eventually leading her to explore oil painting as her primary medium. Although largely self-taught, Malika has continued to develop her practice through independent study and formal coursework in Fine Arts.
Malika holds a Bachelor of Arts in Architectural Studies with a minor in Fine Arts from Kean University in New Jersey, USA. During her studies, she remained committed to painting and produced works that allowed her to maintain a sense of creative freedom while abroad. Her first solo exhibition, held at Kean University, showcased works created between 2022 and 2025. Through her work, Malika hopes viewers can recognize aspects of themselves, feel seen and understood, and engage with ideas that encourage deeper reflection.
