Biography
Artist Statement
As an artist and fashion jewelry designer with a background in accounting, creativity is not just a passion; it is the core of my identity. My artistic journey began in childhood, shaped by the influence of my uncle, who was an artist and teacher. I would hand-paint on clothing and bottles, and tie-dye. These early experiences laid the foundation for a lifelong dedication to artistic expression and evolution.
My journey into jewelry design came much later in my life. I read a newspaper article back in 2015 about a female entrepreneur who owned a jewelry business. She encouraged her readers to consider starting their ventures by investing in her jewelry business and selling ready-made jewelry. Inspired by her story, I invested and began doing just that for a couple of years. Over time, I realized that I wanted to go beyond reselling; I wanted to create. This realization sparked a new chapter in my journey, leading me to design and handcraft my unique pieces that reflect both my artistic vision and personal style.
Each piece I create, whether a painting or a handmade accessory, is more than a visual object; it tells a story. My work reflects individuality, crafted with meticulous attention to detail and inspired by the richness of the human spirit. Every design celebrates authenticity, uniqueness, and bold self-expression.
My artistic style blends abstract and mixed-media elements, incorporating fabric art with acrylic and fabric paints, as well as digital paintings. In my jewelry designs, I work with plated wires, beads, fabrics, embellishments, paints, and upcycled materials to produce striking, one-of-a-kind pieces that embody a raw yet refined aesthetic.
I’ve had the privilege of showcasing and selling my work at respected Art Galleries, including The Rotunda Gallery and The Art Society of Trinidad and Tobago, as well as at pop-up markets, trade shows, fashion shows, and a digital magazine. A selection of my one-of-a-kind fashion jewelry pieces is currently available at two (2) boutique stores in Trinidad, offering customers the opportunity to engage with the uniqueness of my handcrafted designs in person.
As a self-taught artist, I have pursued continuous growth through short courses and certifications, including:
- Introductory Arts and Crafts – Caribbean Fashion & Arts Feature Festival
- Upcycled Craft and Designs – Ministry of Sport and Community Development
- Graphic Design & Jewelry Making – Synergy Training Institute Ltd.
- Advanced Fabric Art (ECCL Assured Certificate) – Export Centres Company Ltd.
At the heart of my work is the desire to evoke emotion, invite connection, and empower those who engage with it. I find deep fulfillment in witnessing how my art and jewelry resonate with others, offering beauty, meaning, and timeless elegance to those who wear or experience them.
Thank you for taking the time to read my creative journey.
