About Us

Formally known as the National Registry of Artists and Cultural Workers, the Artist Registry of Trinidad and Tobago (ARTT) provides State recognition to artists and cultural workers. This enables them to gain access to resources and opportunities provided by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago for their growth, development, and success in the Culture Sector.

The Artist Registry is an initiative of the Ministry with responsibility for Culture, and it is supported by the Cabinet of Trinidad and Tobago. The Artist Registry was launched in February 2011 and performs the following functions:

MANAGEMENT STRUCTURE

The Artist Registry is managed by an Assessment Committee and a Secretariat. The Assessment Committee is comprised of representation from the:

  • Ministry with responsibility for Culture
  • Ministry with responsibility for Foreign Affairs
  • Academy of Arts, Culture and Public Arts, at the University of Trinidad and Tobago
  • Department of Creative and Festival Arts, at The University of the West Indies
  • Department of Culture, in the Division of Tourism, Culture, Antiquities and Transportation, in the Tobago House of Assembly
  • Film Sector
  • Culture Sector
  • Arts Sector

THE ASSESSMENT COMMITTEE

The Assessment Committee is mandated to:

  • Evaluate applications from artists, cultural workers and cultural organizations for registration with the Artist Registry.
  • Evaluate work submitted for certification as audio, visual and video productions, and festivals which promote or reflect local entertainment and culture.
  • Prepare status reports on evaluation and certification works.
  • Make recommendations considered beneficial to the improvement of the process and its related legislation.

THE SECRETARIAT

The Secretariat administers the work of the Artist Registry, and is comprised of staff of the Culture Division. This includes managing the operations of the Assessment Committee, and:

  • Guiding applicants through the application process.
  • Sensitising individuals and organisations about the benefits of the Artist Registry.
  • Participating in or conducting outreach activities.
  • Executing mentorship programmes to train and further equip artists and cultural workers.
